What

This retreat will share teaching approaches for the beginning to advanced player.
 Learn The Grossman Method® techniques for healthy and aligned playing for the advanced student.
And Mimi Zweig's pedagogy ​"Creating a Healthy Foundation" for teaching your beginning violin and viola students will be taught by Stacia Spencer. 

​Injury prevention, performance anxiety, and proper set up will be the focus for all students and their teachers.

Stacia Spencer 

Stacia Spencer is the Senior Lecturer in String Pedagogy at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, String Coordinator of the Northwestern Music Academy and Director of the Northwestern Virtuosi Strings. She is also a former Indiana University faculty and assistant of Mimi Zweig and has worked closely with her for many years.  

Ms. Spencer created “Teaching the Violin: Creating a Healthy Foundation”, the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) dedicated to teaching the beginning stages of violin playing which include the pedagogy of Mimi Zweig, Paul Rolland and Shinichi Suzuki.  Stacia has worked with Hal Grossman at the National High School Institute of Music as well as given lectures and master classes for his students. The pedagogy techniques that she uses are a complement to the Grossman Method. 

     Hal Grossman

Violinist Hal Grossman has been hailed by critics for his "tremendous virtuosic technique" and "outstanding artistic sense." Currently Professor of Violin at University of Oregon, Mr. Grossman was formerly Professor of Violin at Interlochen Arts Academy and Miami University. Mr. Grossman has also held concertmaster positions with the Estranach Festival Orchestra in Luxembourg, Illinois Philharmonic, and the Lansing and Saginaw symphonies. 

Violinist Hal Grossman brings his years of teaching experience to your students. As a Yoga Ed Certified Instructor, Hal combines his professional career as a violinist with a deep understanding of the body and how it should function during performance.
